![]() The Culture Factory remaster sounds slick and very loud. ![]() It doesn't sound as bad as I thought it would, being compressed so much, but it is not at all a faithful transfer of the original with minor tweaks, it's a huge change in dynamics. This is a valid comparison because the VoicePrint remaster is peak limited and normalized to almost 100% already on the CD, the difference in perceived volume is all dynamics processing. I haven't analyzed the average RMS and compared the two CD remaster versions, I could if desired, but my Rotel pre amp gives the same perceived volume level at 50/100 on the volume scale for the Culture Factory remaster that the VoicePrint remaster gave at about 62/100, it's a huge difference. It is probably the most compressed remaster I have ever heard, it has been compressed to modern loudness standards. The Culture Factory remaster has a TON of dynamics processing on it. I compared it to the original vinyl release I have and also the VoicePrint UK remastered CD. Wayne, I just listened through the Culture Factory remaster of Nigel Lived. Regarding the Culture Factory reissues, I see Culture factory is doing in-house "remastering" using $150 Yamaha consumer grade HS50 speakers and a cheap board.most home DIY project studios have more expensive monitors than this so I'm definitely leery, but will take a listen and see when I get them (My vinyl was mostly new unplayed copies that I transferred for my own archival purposes using an AT440MLa cartridge) It's one thing to add a little presence and sparkle to try to make a recording sound "modern" but the VoicePrint stuff was painfully bright. I have transferred all of my Murray Head original vinyl to PC and did an EQ comparison to the VoicePrint remasters using Izotope Ozone software, and found the mids and top boosted by up to 10 dB on the VoicePrint remasters in some cases. The VoicePrint remasters were REALLY heavy-handedly eq'd and I found them hard to listen to on good speakers because they had so much top end added. I own almost all of Murray head's original vinyl releases, and all of the VoicePrint UK CD reissues (The albums I have: Between Us, Find the Crowd, Innocence, Nigel Lived, Pipe Dreams, Restless, Say it Ain't So, Shade, Sooner or Later, Tete a Tete, Voices, and My Back Pages). I just ordered a few of the Culture Factory Murray head reissues, I will report back on how they sound if you are still curious Wayne.
